The Devastating Consequences of Plastics

It is incredible the amazing amount of plastic that is discarded annually in the Dominican Republic, causing this to clog the sewers and then flood the streets of our island. Also, after this our floods become dirty and, in many cases, due to floods both material and biodiversity are lost.

“Plastic pollution represents for the Dominican Republic "a great barrier" to the proper management of ecosystems and coastal and Marine resources of the island.” Said the deputy minister of coastal resources of the ministry of environment, Jose Ramon Reyes. The deputy minister of coastal resources of the ministry of environment highlights how the excessive presence of plastics creates significant obstacles to the proper management and conservation of these precious natural environments on the island. It is a call to action to address this problem with concrete and sustainable measures.
